Toradol Injections

WHAT IT IS

Toradol (ketorolac tromethamine) is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used for the short-term management of moderate to severe pain. It is commonly administered as an intramuscular (IM) injection and is often used to help relieve pain associated with migraines, muscle strains, back pain, injuries, post-procedure discomfort, and inflammatory conditions.

Unlike opioid medications, Toradol is non-narcotic and does not cause dependence or addiction.

HOW IT WORKS

Toradol works by blocking the body's production of prostaglandins, which are chemicals responsible for pain, inflammation, and swelling.

• By reducing prostaglandin production, Toradol helps:

• Decrease pain signals

• Reduce inflammation

• Minimize swelling

• Improve comfort and mobility

Most patients begin noticing pain relief within 30 to 60 minutes after injection, with effects lasting approximately 4 to 6 hours, and sometimes longer depending on the individual and condition being treated.

WHAT TO EXPECT

During Treatment

• A licensed healthcare provider administers the injection, typically into the gluteal or deltoid muscle.

• The procedure takes only a few minutes.

• Mild discomfort or soreness at the injection site may occur.

After Treatment

• Pain relief may begin within 30 to 60 minutes.

• Many patients experience reduced inflammation and improved mobility.

• Hydration is encouraged after treatment.

• Normal daily activities may typically be resumed unless otherwise advised.

Possible Side Effects

• Most side effects are mild and temporary but may include:

• Injection site soreness

• Upset stomach

• Nausea

• Headache

• Dizziness

Toradol may not be appropriate for individuals with:

• Kidney disease

• Active stomach ulcers

• History of gastrointestinal bleeding

• Bleeding disorders

• NSAID allergies

• Pregnancy (especially during the third trimester)
